Residence for minors
Your children's papers are as important as yours. We help you apply for their residence and make sure they don't fall behind on renewals.
What it involves
Residence for minors is the permit that allows the children of foreign nationals to live legally in Spain. It is applied for, for example, when a child is born here to parents with residence, or when the child came to Spain and lives with them without papers. In some cases it also concerns minors under the guardianship of a child protection authority.
Is this your case?
- You have just had a baby in Spain and need their residence card.
- Your child came to Spain on a tourist visa and has stayed to live with you.
- Your child goes to school here but still has no residence permit.
- Your residence and your children's expire at different times and you don't know how to organise it.
How we help
We study your child's situation and yours, because the route depends on where they were born, how they arrived and your own papers. We prepare the application with their birth certificate, padrón registration and school enrolment certificate, and support you until they have their card (TIE). We also coordinate their renewals with yours. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.
Later on, we can look at Spanish nationality for your child and take care of renewals for the whole family.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my child born in Spain automatically Spanish?
- Generally, no. Being born in Spain does not on its own give Spanish nationality if the parents are foreign nationals, except in some special cases. The usual step is to apply for their residence and, later on, consider nationality.
- What do I do if my child arrived in Spain without papers?
- Contact us: if your child lives with you and attends school, in many cases there is a route to regularise them. We review your situation and theirs to choose the right one.
- What happens to my child's papers if I don't renew mine?
- Your child's residence is usually linked to yours, so it is best to keep both up to date. We help you with the whole family's renewals so nobody is left without papers.
