Family reunification

Living far from your loved ones is hard. We support you through family reunification so your family can join you in Spain.

What it involves

Family reunification (reagrupación familiar) allows a foreign national with residence in Spain to bring certain family members, such as their partner or children, to live with them. First the permit is applied for in Spain and, if it is granted, your family member applies for the visa at the consulate in their country so they can travel.

Is this your case?

  • You have residence in Spain and your wife or husband is still in your home country.
  • You want to bring your children, who live with their grandparents in your country of origin.
  • You are worried that you don't meet the income or housing requirements.
  • The consulate has refused your family member's visa after the permit was granted.

How we help

We review your residence, your income and your housing before we start, to spot in good time anything that could go wrong. We prepare the application in Spain and tell you which documents your family has to gather, with their legalisations and translations. Then we guide your family member for the consulate appointment and, if there are problems with the visa, we look at an appeal. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.

If your child is born here, we help you with residence for minors; and for the consulate appointment, we review your visa.

Frequently asked questions

Which family members can I bring over?
Generally, your spouse or partner, your children and, in some cases, your parents or your partner's parents. It depends on your situation and that of each family member, so we review it with you.
How long does family reunification take?
It depends on the immigration office and on your family's consulate, which work at different speeds. What delays the process most are requests for missing documents, and that can be avoided with a complete file from the start.
If my child is born in Spain, do I have to apply for reunification?
No. For a child born in Spain to parents with residence, a separate permit is applied for, without going through reunification. We also help you with that procedure.
