What it involves

Robbery (robo) means taking something that belongs to someone else by using force on things, such as breaking a lock or a car window, or violence or intimidation against people, such as snatching a bag or making a threat. It is considered more serious than theft, especially when it happens in a home or a weapon is used.

Is this your case?

  • You have been arrested as a suspect in a robbery from a shop or a car.
  • You are accused of violent robbery over a bag snatch or a fight in which a mobile phone went missing.
  • Someone has broken into your home or business and you want it investigated.
  • You have been identified on camera and you disagree with what you are being accused of.

How we help

We assist you from the arrest or the first summons, study the police report, the recordings and the identification procedures, and check that your rights have been respected. We prepare your defence and, where there is room, look for the least harmful solution for you. If you are a victim, we represent you as a prosecuting party (acusación) and claim back what was taken or compensation for the damage. Bear in mind that a robbery conviction creates a criminal record that can affect your residence or nationality. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.

If you have just been arrested, see our detainee assistance service, and to clear your record when possible, criminal record cancellation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between theft and robbery?
Theft (hurto) involves no force or violence. It is robbery (robo) when something is forced to get to what is taken, such as a door or a car window, or when violence or intimidation is used against a person. Robbery is punished more severely.
I have been arrested for robbery. Do I have to make a statement?
You have the right not to make a statement and to make one only with your lawyer present. Before giving your version, you should talk to us to find out what evidence there is and how to approach your statement.
My home or business has been broken into. What should I do?
Don't touch anything and call the police so they can collect fingerprints and evidence. Make a list of what is missing, keep receipts and photos, and make a complaint. We help you follow the proceedings and claim against the person responsible or the insurer.
