What it involves

Gender-based violence (violencia de género) is violence suffered by a woman at the hands of her male partner or ex-partner, whether physical, psychological or sexual, and whether or not they live together. These cases are handled by a specialised court, which can adopt protection measures quickly. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 112.

Is this your case?

  • You suffer abuse or control from your partner or ex-partner and don't know how to take the step of reporting it.
  • You need a protection order for yourself and your children.
  • You have been reported or arrested and summoned to the court for violence against women (juzgado de violencia sobre la mujer).
  • You have a restraining order and are unsure what you can and cannot do.

How we help

We listen to you with respect and confidentiality, without judging you. If you are a victim, we support you in making the complaint, apply for protection measures and represent you throughout the proceedings. If you are the person reported, we assist you from the arrest or summons and defend your rights at trial. In both cases we explain how the process affects your children and your residence situation. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.

If you have children together, we also help you with child custody, and if someone has been arrested, with detainee assistance.

Frequently asked questions

What is a protection order?
It is a decision by the judge that protects the victim while the proceedings last. It can include barring the other person from approaching or contacting her, as well as measures concerning the home or the children.
I have been reported for gender-based violence. What should I do?
Stay calm, avoid any contact with the person who reported you, always respect any restraining order and do not make a statement without a lawyer. Call us: we will explain your rights and prepare your defence.
I am a foreign woman without papers. Can I report it?
Yes. Foreign women who are victims of gender-based violence have specific protection, including in relation to residence, depending on their situation. We explain your options in complete confidence.
