What it involves

A student stay (estancia por estudios) is the permit that allows a foreign national to live in Spain while studying, training, doing research, an internship or volunteering. It is normally applied for from the country of origin with a visa, although in some cases it can be processed while already in Spain. It must be renewed for as long as the studies last.

Is this your case?

  • You have been admitted to a Spanish university and need the visa to come.
  • You are legally in Spain and want to start a master's degree or a vocational training course.
  • Your student permit expires soon and you don't know how to show your academic progress.
  • You are finishing your degree and want to stay to work or look for a job in Spain.

How we help

We review your enrolment, your financial means and your health insurance so that the application is complete from the start. We prepare the file for the consulate or for the immigration office, depending on where you apply from, and take care of renewals. When you finish, we plan with you the move to a work permit. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.

When you finish, we help you with modifications to residence and work; and if you are still in your country, we review your visa.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a student visa and a student stay?
The visa is the permit the consulate gives you to enter Spain; the student stay (estancia por estudios) is the permit that allows you to remain while you study. One often leads to the other.
What do I do if I finish my studies and want to stay and work?
In many cases you can move to a residence and work permit without leaving Spain. It is best to prepare this before your stay ends, so you are not left without papers in between.
Can I work while I study in Spain?
In many cases, yes, within certain limits so that the work is compatible with your studies. We explain what your permit allows and how the contract must be drawn up.
