What it involves

To work for yourself in Spain, you have to register as self-employed (alta de autónomo) with the Tax Agency (Hacienda) and with Social Security. When you register, you choose the activity you are going to carry out, the tax regime and your contributions, and those decisions determine how much you will pay and what obligations you will have.

Is this your case?

  • You are going to start a business, open premises or work as a freelancer.
  • You have a residence and self-employment work permit and need to register.
  • You don't know which activity code (epígrafe) to choose or which taxes you will have to file.
  • You work for yourself without being registered and want to put things in order.

How we help

We review your activity, choose with you the options that suit you best and register you with the Tax Agency and Social Security. Afterwards, we explain which returns you will have to file and, if you wish, we continue to manage your paperwork so that you don't miss any deadline. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.

After you register, we can take care of your quarterly tax returns, and if your business grows, we help you with setting up a company.

Frequently asked questions

Can I register as self-employed if I am a foreign national?
Yes, if your permit allows you to work on a self-employed basis. If you are not sure, we review your permit before registering you.
What taxes does a self-employed person have to file?
It depends on your activity. The most common are the quarterly VAT (IVA) and personal income tax (IRPF) returns and the annual income tax return (declaración de la renta). We explain which ones apply to you.
Can you manage my paperwork after I register?
Yes. We can take care of your tax returns, your obligations with the Tax Agency and Social Security, and any requirements you receive.
