Tax registry changes

When your business changes, the Tax Agency needs to know. We take care of notifying each change so you don't run into problems later.

What it involves

Tax registry changes (modificaciones censales) are the changes a self-employed person has to notify to the Tax Agency (Hacienda) when something about their activity changes. For example, a new tax address, different premises, another activity (epígrafe) or a different way of being taxed. If they are not notified, your details no longer match reality and you may receive notices or penalties.

Is this your case?

  • You have moved and your tax address is still the old one.
  • You want to add a new activity, for example selling online as well as in your shop.
  • You are opening a second set of premises or closing one of those you had.
  • You are starting to invoice clients in other European Union countries and need to sign up to the relevant register.

How we help

We review the details the Tax Agency has on record and compare them with your actual situation. We explain the consequences of each change, for example for your invoices or for the returns you have to file, and we file the change electronically on your behalf. If the change also affects Social Security, we notify it there too. That way you avoid mismatches between what you do and what appears on your record. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.

If you are not registered yet, we start with your self-employed registration; and if the change affects how you charge tax, we advise you on VAT (IVA).

Frequently asked questions

What is a tax registry change and when do I have to make one?
It is notifying the Tax Agency of any change in the details of your activity: address, premises, activity or the way you are taxed. You have to do it when the change happens, within the applicable deadline.
What should I do if I have changed activity and not notified it?
It is best to regularise it as soon as possible, because your invoices and tax returns may not match what the Tax Agency has on record. We review your details and file the correction.
If I change the address on my TIE, do I also have to change it with the Tax Agency?
Yes, they are separate procedures. Changing your address with the immigration office or on the padrón (local census) does not update your tax address, so you also have to notify the Tax Agency.
