What it involves
A digital certificate (certificado digital) is a file that identifies you online, as if it were your identity document, and lets you sign procedures without having to go anywhere. With it you can file taxes, check your details, receive electronic notifications or request appointments and documents from the public authorities. For a self-employed person it is almost essential.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between a digital certificate and Cl@ve?
- Both are used to identify yourself online with the public authorities. The digital certificate is a file installed on your computer or phone that lets you sign documents; Cl@ve is an access system with a username and codes. Depending on the procedure, you will need one or the other.
- What should I do if my digital certificate has expired?
- It can normally be renewed before it expires; if it has already expired, you have to apply for a new one. In the meantime, an authorised person can file your procedures on your behalf. We help you with both.
- Can I get a digital certificate if I am a foreign national?
- In general, yes, with your NIE and a document proving your identity. We explain what you need to bring depending on your case and support you at every step.
