Tax obligations

Being self-employed involves more than paying taxes. We give you a clear view of everything the Tax Agency asks of you and help you keep it in order.

What it involves

Tax obligations are everything the Tax Agency (Hacienda) expects of you as a self-employed person, not just paying taxes. They include being on the tax register with your details up to date, issuing correct invoices, keeping the record books (libros registro), filing your periodic and annual returns, keeping your documents and dealing with any notifications you receive.

Is this your case?

  • You are starting out as self-employed and want to know from the beginning what will be asked of you.
  • You have received a penalty for something you didn't even know was compulsory.
  • You don't know how long you have to keep your invoices or what details they must include.
  • You are going to hire your first employee and are worried about what changes for your taxes.

How we help

We carry out a complete review of your situation and give you a clear list of your obligations, adapted to your activity. We review your invoices so they include everything they need, organise your deadlines and, if you authorise us, keep an eye on your electronic notifications mailbox. When something changes in your business, we let you know how it affects what you have to file. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.

To keep on top of everything without stress, we help you with accounting, and if you have already received a letter, we review your Tax Agency requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Are tax obligations the same for all self-employed people?
No. They depend on your activity, the way you are taxed, whether you have employees or rented premises and whether you sell abroad. That is why it is worth reviewing your specific case rather than following a general list.
Do I have to receive notifications from the Tax Agency and Social Security online?
It depends on the body and on your situation: in some cases it is compulsory. If it is and you don't check your electronic mailbox, the notification may be treated as received anyway. We help you keep track of them.
If I go back to my country for a while, do my obligations with the Tax Agency continue?
Yes. As long as you are still registered as self-employed, your obligations continue even if you don't invoice anything. If you are going to stop your activity, we explain whether it is better to deregister or stay registered.
