Fraud
Scams are more and more common and varied. We help you report them, try to get your money back, or defend yourself if you are accused.
What it involves
Fraud (estafa) means deceiving someone into handing over money or property they would not have given if they had known the truth. Today many scams arrive online: online purchases, fake rentals, job offers, investments or messages pretending to be from your bank. We can act both to make a claim and to defend you against an accusation.
Is this your case?
- You paid the deposit on a flat that didn't exist.
- Your account was emptied after a message or call that seemed to come from your bank.
- You were offered a job or residence papers in exchange for money and it was a lie.
- You are being investigated for fraud because your account or your name was used in a transaction.
How we help
We gather the evidence, file the complaint (denuncia) or private criminal complaint (querella) and follow the investigation to try to identify those responsible and recover whatever is possible. If you are accused, we analyse your role in what happened and prepare your defence. When the bank refuses to refund money from a transaction you did not authorise, we also consider the civil route. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.
If the problem is with your bank, we help you with banking claims, and if someone kept money you entrusted to them, see misappropriation.
Frequently asked questions
- How is fraud different from simply failing to keep a deal?
- It is fraud when someone deceives you from the start so that you hand over money or property. If they simply fail to do what was agreed without any prior deception, it is usually a civil matter. We analyse your case to choose the right route.
- I have been scammed through Bizum or online. What should I do?
- Keep all the evidence: screenshots, messages, account numbers and proof of payment. Tell your bank straight away and make a complaint. Afterwards we help you follow the case and make a claim.
- I lent my bank account to an acquaintance and now I am being investigated for fraud. What do I do?
- This is a situation we see often: someone offers easy money in exchange for receiving transfers into your account. Do not make a statement without a lawyer. We look at whether you knew what was going on and prepare your defence.
