Social Security requirements
Debts with Social Security grow with surcharges if they are not dealt with. We help you understand what they are claiming and find the right way out.
What it involves
As a self-employed person, you may receive various communications from Social Security: claims for unpaid contributions, enforcement orders (providencias de apremio) with a surcharge, seizure orders (diligencias de embargo), reviews of your contributions, or decisions registering or deregistering you on their own initiative (de oficio). Each one has its own deadline and way of responding, and if it is not dealt with, the debt can grow.
Is this your case?
- You are being asked for contributions for some months when you thought you had already deregistered.
- You have received an enforcement order and don't understand where the amount comes from.
- Your bank account or part of your salary has been seized for a self-employed debt.
- You are being asked to pay back an aid or a reduction in contributions because they say you did not meet the conditions.
How we help
We request and review your debt report and your contribution history to check whether the claim is correct. If there are errors, we submit objections (alegaciones) or an appeal within the deadline. If the debt is genuine, we help you request a deferral so you can pay it off gradually and avoid or lift seizures. We also check that your contributions are correctly calculated. We can help you in Spanish, Arabic, Tamazight, French and English, at our offices in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Málaga and Barcelona or online, wherever you are in Spain.
If you want to close your activity so that no more contributions build up, we handle your self-employed deregistration; and for other pension or benefit matters, we help you with Social Security.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a Social Security enforcement order (providencia de apremio)?
- It is the notice that a debt not paid on time is now being collected through enforcement proceedings, with a surcharge added. If it is neither paid nor appealed, the next step may be the seizure of bank accounts or assets.
- What should I do if my account is seized for a self-employed debt?
- Contact us as soon as possible. We review whether the debt is correct, whether the seizure respects the legal limits and whether a deferral can be requested to have it lifted.
- I am being asked for contributions from a time when I was outside Spain. Is that normal?
- It can happen if you did not deregister when you left. If you can prove that you were not working here, in some cases the debt can be disputed. We gather the evidence and raise it.
